Education is the key to development. Professional education is a master kay to life's vocation. "Right to education", is a strategic initiative, the state made for its citizens to ensure that every student of the nationcould seek education as a matter of right. The challenges of our population demand increased opportunities on the part of the state and quality supplementary efforts on the part of the churches and the other Education imparting bodies.

The escalating costs and the stiff competition of the institution based learning excluded a great majority of the potential seekers of higher and professional education. The Community colleges and the Directorates of the Distance Education (DDE) of the universities are the special instruments world over geared to make education accessible, off the compuses for career building. These are the cost effective models for pursuing higher and professional education. These need to be encouraged within the parameters of academic standards and other requirements of the dergees, the students pursue.

It is in the context that the SHIATS DU has been running Distance Education Programmers and strengthened its efforts with system in place in that direction enhancing opportunities for students who dare to be different to make a mark in life. SHIATS DU with its professional base and dedicated teams of faculty is well set through its DDE to reach out to the students who are otherwise unable to pursue on campus studies to shape themselves for a better tomorrow.

It is our wish and prayer that these initiatives would supplement the ongoing efforts of the state making professional education accessible and affordable.

I wish the DDE of our University, God's richest blessing as they endeavor in the same spirit as the university itself to import and enhance the professional competence to the process of nation building.

Welcome to SHUATS

The Agricultural Institute was established under the leadership of Dr. Sam Higginbottom, in 1910, as an ecumenical Institution of the Christian Churches and Church organizations in India. Lal on the 31st of August 1994, that the Institute be granted the status of a Deemed University. In 1997 a team of experts from ICAR and UGC visited the Institute and gave their recommendation that the Institute be declared as a Deemed University, as it had all the potentials of a University. On the 15th of March 2000, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, Honable Minister of HRD, Govt. of India, gave his approval to the recommendations of the UGC.
